Priesthood

or
Are you looking at what you think you are seeing?

More years ago than I care to admit, a young boy remarked to his parents how he might like to enter the ministry, because it would be nice to only have to go to work one day a week, even if it meant giving up Sundays.  A few years later, that same young man saw the Episcopal priesthood as a highly desirable job.  Denied that path due to church politics having nothing to do with merit, qualifications or spirituality, that slightly older man found fulfillment as a Wiccan High Priest, even though that role is traditionally unpaid.  Or is it fulfillment?  Some folks would think that would mean he'd sit back and feel good about what he'd achieved.

Priesthood is a state of being.  I came to that conclusion a while back.  This essay, originally published on The Witches Voice, builds on that concept.

Aeon Of The Death Cookie.  This is a direct link to another site, and a transcript of a discussion between Rt. Rev. Jerome Peartree and Bishop Richard Gernon.  While the subject is the Gnostic Mass as developed by Crowley, I firmly believe that the principles apply to any mass, and for that matter any ritual at which a Priest or Priestess might officiate.  Worthy reading for anyone who sees their path as including priesthood.

Beyond Sabbats, Coven Meetings and Weddings.  Most Wiccans can do a ritual for a sabbat,  Many can handle leading a coven meeting, including any ritual associated with that.  There are those who feel that having a legal status which allows them to perform handfastings which are legal weddings is a sign of having "made it" as clergy.  There's quite a lot more.

Rituals - Some thoughts on the rituals a Priest or Priestess is called upon to do.

Issues - Any Priest or Priestess who claims to have no "issues" has that as an issue.  Here are mine.

Prayer Life - Some thoughts on the subject.

Looking Forward To Priesthood - Some thoughts I'd offer those considering.

This page is definitely a work-in-progress.
